After a cold winter, there are many activities we like to do in the spring such as spring cleaning and working on projects around the house, cooking out with neighbors or taking a trip to the beach.
No matter what your spring plans are, tackle them with safety in mind.
Spring Cleaning
? Hazardous materials like cleaning supplies, pesticides and gasoline should be properly marked and stored in a safe, secure place away from children
? Wear rubber gloves when using hazardous chemicals to prevent their contact with skin
? Never mix chemicals
? Always seek advice regarding proper disposal of hazardous materials
Yard Work
? Always wear proper protective clothing and eyewear
? Inspect the yard before mowing to prevent launching hazardous objects
? Read manufacturers instructions on all power tools before using
? Unplug all power tools when not in use
Water Safety
? Only swim in approved areas
? Always check the depth of the water before jumping in
? Always supervise children in and around the water
? Always use an approved personal flotation device when involved in water activities like boating, jet-skiing, tubing or water-skiing
Grilling Safety
? Position barbecue grills safely away from buildings
? Keep children and pets away from the grill
? Thoroughly check the structure, tank and hoses (on a gas grill) before igniting or lighting the grill
? Follow package instructions for the proper use of charcoal and lighter fluids.
