A Healthy 2016

Our January 4 blog focused solely on the New Year?s resolution of quitting smoking. No doubt, this particular resolution is one of the most popular health-related goals each January, but what about other ways you can be healthier in 2016?
Financially
Whether reducing debt or saving more or relying less on credit cards, January is a great time to set goals related to fiscal health. Consider meeting with a financial planner at your bank (hint: at many banks this is a FREE service to account holders) and discuss your goals for 2016 as well as long-term financial goals beyond this year.
Emotionally
A bad breakup, loss of a loved one, losing your job?all of these events are emotionally-charged happenings in your life and they cannot be ignored. Instead, consider these options for restoring your emotional health:
? Schedule time with friends and family ? in person, on the phone, via Facetime or Skype ? the point is that connecting with the people you love will reduce stress. Plan a date and time and keep it as religiously as you would a meeting or bill due date.
? Start a journal for recording your thoughts ? happy ones and not-so-happy ones. The release of getting it out will help clear your mind and might give you new perspective as you read your own thoughts on paper.
? Remove stressful, negative people from your life and replace them with positive people who have similar goals and lifestyle pursuits. You never know when you might make a new friend with someone who enjoys the same movies, outdoor activities, and volunteer groups.
Physically
Being active most days of the week can help your body be healthier in many ways, including weight loss, improved heart health, lower cholesterol and improved immune function. Pair being active with eating a well-balanced diet and your entire body will reap the benefits?sleep better, improve digestive health, experience less stress and have more energy.
